The Cedars-Sinai F. Widjaja Inflammatory Bowel & Immunobiology Research Institute (IBIRI) is a multidisciplinary basic, translational and clinical research program devoted to mucosal inflammation. Under the direction of Katrhin Michelsen, PhD, the institute is seeking a successful applicant for a Research Associate I (RAI) position within our basic science laboratory.
Working under direct supervision, the Research Associate 1 performs a variety of routine experimental protocols and procedures to support the objectives of one or more laboratory research projects in a specific area of research. Assists in general laboratory activities, including maintenance of reagents and stocking of supplies. Files and monitors documents. Keeps accurate and detailed records of experiments and results. Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery. Observes safety standards and procedures. The Research Assistant 1 will be able to perform routine cellular, micro- and molecular biology procedures including, but not limited to ELISAs, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, genotyping, cell and tissue culture, Immunohistochemistry, Immunofluorescence staining, flow cytometry, mice husbandry and procedures. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Department Specific - Essential Job Responsibilities include:
•Performs routine laboratory tasks and procedures (flow cytometry, ELISAs, genotyping, qPCR etc).
•Keeps accurate and detailed project records of experiments and results.
•Assist with animal husbandry, breeding and genotyping of mice.
•Maintains lab equipment and related records.
•Orders laboratory supplies and supports laboratory operations
•Maintains computer database with relevant research information.
•Performs lab maintenance duties, including glassware cleaning and sterilization.
•Maintains stocks of general lab materials, and places orders for lab equipment and supplies.
•Assists new students and fellows in the laboratory.
•Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery.
•Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.
•Participates in project planning, troubleshooting and execution of clinical/research projects.
•Analyzes data and participates in the preparation of scientific findings for publication as co-author and prepares presentations.
•Assists in preparation of grant proposals, publications and presentations.
•Monitors and ensures compliance with safety standards and procedures.Educational Requirements:
Understanding of general research objectives. Working knowledge of database management, personal computers, and presentation and imaging software. Familiar with routine laboratory procedures and experimental protocols. Must possess computer skills to include, but not limited to, Excel and Word.
Ability to stand during laboratory procedures and benchwork, use of computer, Able to perform moderate lifting. Able to sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time. Able to exercise physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily perform essential job functions.
