Job Summary:

Key Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice President, plan and direct the strategic vision of the Pathology and Laboratory services for the organization. Interface with departments, physicians and staff across various business and clinical units to direct and facilitate continuous Laboratory services to clinical staff and patients. Responsible for performance improvement initiatives and always maintaining regulatory compliance with applicable standards and agencies.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Exercise leadership and sound decision making in maximizing the use of CSMC's financial resources. Develop fiscal management capabilities including effective expense reduction, utilization management, budget control and revenue generation.

  • Anticipate and is proactive in identifying, appropriately defining, diagnosing and resolving problems, taking relevant factors and consequences into account.

  • Contribute to the development of strategic and operational plans, programs and policies of CSMS. Develop and implement measurable objectives consistent with the organization's mission, goals and timetables. Anticipate and is flexible and adjust plans to meet changing conditions. Organize work to ensure timely, effective and economic use of resources. Develop ways to measure progress, evaluate results and take corrective action in a timely manner.

  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of the trends and forces that shape the healthcare delivery system, the provisionof care, and other emerging issues in healthcare. Demonstrates flexibility and initiative to effectively lead change effortsto respond to environmental or organizational change.

  • Demonstrate capabilities in cross functional process assessment, problem solving and process improvement.

  • Demonstrate superior interpersonal and communication skills, commensurate presentation skills, in settings ranging fromone-on-one to large groups.

  • Effectively lead the design and organization of work and allocation of resources to achieve the appropriate staffing levels,mix, and productivity levels.

  • Demonstrate strength in personnel management including demonstrated ability to select, motivate, develop and engageworkforce to promote collaborative team efforts to achieve goals.

  • Serve as a catalyst for effective change in the Department to meet the need of the Medical Center.

  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of Clinical Laboratory compliance and regulations including California LaboratoryFiled Services, College of American Pathology, FDA, Joint Commission and other regulatory bodies.

  • Design and conduct need assessments, and design and implementation of new laboratory services.

  • Maintain a robust quality management and process improvement program that serves the patients, physicians, nursing andother teams in the medical center.

  • Coordinate strategic planning to ensure the needs of the Medical Center can be met by Pathology and LaboratoryMedicine.


Master's Degree In Clinical Laboratory Science, Health Care Administration, or a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) Preferred.

Work Experience:

10 years Experience directing a clinical laboratory in a tertiary Medical Center Required.

Licenses and Certifications:

Clinical Laboratory Scientist

  • CA CLS License (preferred)

  • Specialty Certification - American Society of Clinical Pathology, American Association of Clinical Chemists: Upon Hire
