Cedars-Sinai Director, Physician Network Development in United States

Under the direction of the Vice President, Physician Recruitment and Network Development, the Director, Medical Network Development is responsible for taking the lead role in building Cedars-Sinai Medical Network’s high quality, integrated provider network in target markets and emerging new markets as defined by the Cedars-Sinai strategic growth plan. This position will be responsible for cross promotion of physicians to drive market share among Cedars-Sinai Medical Care Foundation affiliates and facilities as well as Cedars-Sinai Health System hospitals. The Director will be responsible for ensuring the timely development and accuracy of all transactional documents related to physician acquisitions and IPA affiliations. The position will work closely with medical network management to ensure the timely and seamless onboarding of all new physician practices. The Director will have oversight of medical network marketing strategy execution. This position will be responsible for directing and supervising the performance of the Physician Network Development Managers and Medical Network Marketing staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Directs all activities related to physician and market assessment and physician relationship development, particularly focused on target and new strategic markets.

  2. Identifies opportunities to build the MDN primary care and specialty network.

  3. Directs communications to advance the position and growth of CSMN recruitment and contracting opportunities in those markets.

  4. Leads the development of CSMN’s population health strategy in new markets through building a robust primary care network.

  5. Recruits and negotiates contracts with a full continuum of specialty care physicians in the new markets (representing all specialty requirements for an HMO network).

  6. Working with the managed care operations team, facilitates, negotiates and manages development of all ancillary contracts (i.e., hospital, urgent care, etc,).

  7. Prepares VP for and participates in negotiation of PSA and other affiliation opportunities, as appropriate.

  8. Ensures all physician employment/PSA analysis, correspondence and documents are drafted and executed accurately and timely.

  9. Works with leadership on implementation of clinical integration programs including ACO development in all strategic markets.

  10. Collaborating with the CSHS Business Development Department, as appropriate, directs market research and development of CSMN business plans.

  11. Creates opportunities to promote affiliates and generate new physician and direct patient referrals through the development of business development and marketing strategies and materials to support CSMN cross-referral development efforts.

  12. Collaborates with group operational leadership to ensure successful onboarding of new physicians.

  13. Provides direction to and supervises day-to-day activities of Managers of Physician Network Development as well as the CSMN Marketing staff.

  14. Performs other related duties, as assigned or required.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, health care administration, science or related discipline with ten or more years of health care experience – preferably within a managed care setting, with a proven track record in physician recruitment and relations, new program development and strategic planning or equivalent education and experience. Master’s Degree in Public Health or Health Services Administration is preferred.

Possess strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Capable of utilizing solid interpersonal skills through interaction with physicians, executive leadership, other management members, and representatives of external organizations/businesses. Establish and maintain effective relationships with physicians, executive leadership, members of management, payers and community providers. Have experience in effectively supervising staff.

Demonstrate excellent organization, analytic and presentation skills, with the ability to efficiently and effectively present information and respond to inquiries in a group setting, including but not limited to physicians, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Possess proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.

Be an experienced problem solver who is pro-active and has the ability to analyze complex business problems, involve appropriate parties and identify optimal solutions.

Possess knowledge and understanding of the current health care environment, the competitive landscape, the organization, functions, policies and procedures of Cedars-Sinai Medical Network and the inter-relationship with the larger Cedars-Sinai Health System, and the ability to apply the knowledge to the work of the office.
