Cedars-Sinai Coder Specialist I in United States
The Coder Specialist I is responsible for abstracting and coding diagnosis including but not limited to evaluation and management visits.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
•Performs accurate and timely coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10 HCPCS, modifiers).
•Maintains familiarity with such issues as HCFA coding regulations, concurrent care, multiple visits on the same day, consultation vs. referral, observation services and procedures.
•Assigned to EPIC work queues that are to be worked in a timely manner
•Attends seminars and workshops in order to maintain corresponding credentials.
•Elevates issues, as appropriate, to the Coding Supervisor.
•Meets monthly productivity and quality standards.
•Understands coding trends to include NCD, LCD, and CMS guidelines.
•Handles in a professional and confidential manner all correspondence, documentation, and files.

Minimum Requirements to perform job duties
•Certified Procedural Coder (CPC) or Certified Procedural Coder – Apprentice (CPC-A).
•Will consider other related certifications with a requirement to complete CPC within 6 months of employment.
•One (1) plus years coding knowledge in physician billing such as Outpatient/Ancillary/Ambulatory Care and/or inpatient coding.
•Understands and applies appropriate teaching physician guidelines to coding.
•Understanding of Windows based applications i.e. Word, Excel and Outlook
•Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills,
•Follows policies and procedures pertinent to the coding and compliance departments.
•Ability to work closely with management and be a team player
•Provide excellent service to all clients
•Performs other duties as assigned.
You will be working in a team based environment.
Hours working will require remaining in a stationary position during entire shift.
Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
Must be able to push and pull up to 25 lbs.
