Crucial Job Summary:

The Safety IRB Analyst works under the supervision of the Director, Environmental Health & Safety, Radiation Safety Manager with primary responsibility for management of a subset of applications submitted for Medical Radiation Safety Committee (MRSC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) review. Performs detailed analysis of all applications submitted for Safety IRB review, verifying all requirements have been met. Attends the Radiation & Institutional Biosafety Safety Committee meetings to provide technical support and assist in capturing discussion and action items. Documents committee determinations in drafting comprehensive meeting minutes and correspondence to investigators that effectively outline concerns, rationale, and technical questions from the Radiation Safety & Institutional Biosafety Committees. Conducts evaluations of investigator’s response to identify potential issues for Safety reviewers and advise whether requirements for Safety IRB approval have been met. Documents the review process completely and timely in WEBRIDGE, the Safety IRB online submission and protocol tracking system.

You will be the point of contact with the research community. Assists investigators in preparation and editing Safety (MRSC, IBC) applications and informed consent forms. Assists in preparing comprehensive report of protocols for Safety Committee review. Assists in preparation of appropriate patient risk language. Participates in departmental quality improvement activities by identifying needs in department operations and making recommendations for improvement.

May be cross-trained to assist other areas in the Environmental Health and Safety department. Conducts special projects as assigned by the Director of Environmental Health and Safety.

Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Medical Physics, Health Physics, Radiological Sciences, Engineering or other related field (Masters Degree preferred).

  • Minimum two (2) years' of experience as an IRB Analyst or regulator affairs experience.

  • Certified as an Institutional Review Board (IRB) Professional (preferred).

  • Require a firm foundation in mentorship and regulations that govern the inclusion of human subjects in research.

  • Proficiency in IRB review process for pre-committee analysis of protocol; composition of pre and post meeting correspondence and meeting minutes; customer service; resource management.

  • Excellent writing skills to generate clear, precise, detailed, grammatically accurate technical letters, memos, reports.

  • Outstanding analytical ability to apply knowledge of federal regulations and institutional policy

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, working with multiple constituencies of varied education/social background.
