The Biomedical Imaging Research Institute (BIRI) is a multidisciplinary imaging research department with scientists and physicians who develop novel ways to advance imaging technology so that diseases of the heart, brain, and cancers could be diagnosed, managed and treated better than ever before. BIRI is seeking a Research Nurse to support the cutting-edge research and clinical imaging studies performed in our Research Imaging Core facility. The Research Nurse will work as part of a collaborative team of researchers, imaging technologists, physicians, nurses, and research coordinators. The Research Nurse will apply medical knowledge and experience to coordinate, implement, and monitor the clinical course of research subjects and clinical patients undergoing MRI and PET/MRI scans in the Imaging Core. Assess physical health and administer treatments aligned with scope of practice, ensure subject/patient safety. The Research Nurse adheres to federal and regulatory requirements in providing direct patient nursing care. The Research Nurse demonstrates professional maturity and is required to have the ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal supervision. A flexible work schedule, outstanding communication and organizational skills, and attention to detail are required in a successful candidate. Note: All External Hires must successfully pass a background check, a prohibited substance screening, and a pre-employment physical.

BSN preferred.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

  • Valid California RN license required

  • BLS CPR certification required

  • CCRP or CCRC certification preferred

Experience:

Three (3) years minimum clinical nursing experience (cardiovascular or imaging experience preferred) in an acute care setting, and one (1) additional year of research nursing experience required. Must be proficient at placing IV lines. Excellent oral/written communication skills and interpersonal skills required. Demonstrated commitment to quality service and care, teamwork, and CSMC goals. Must have strong interpersonal, organizational and multi-tasking skills, and full command (verbal and written) of the English language.

Physical Demands (e.g., lifting, standing, walking):

Must have physical ability and perspective acuity to satisfactorily and safely perform essential job functions, including: ability to frequently sit, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time; read papers and online documents; perform moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds); ability to operate standard office equipment, respond to auditory alarms and communication devices; visual acuity including color differentiation.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be "MR safe" and able to work in a ZONE IV MRI environment.

  • Must be able to work in a reseach facility where preclinical and translational research is conducted.

  • Must be comfortable interacting with patients during PET procedures.

  • May be exposed to blood borne pathogens.
