Cedars-Sinai Research Lab Assistant I - Svendsen Lab - Per Diem in Los Angeles, California

The Svendsen Laboratory at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Regenerative Medicine Institute is looking for a Research Lab Assistant (RLA) to join our dynamic group!

The incumbent should have an interest in the basic science of stem cells and neurodegenerative diseases and will be trained on-the-job in basic benchwork under the close supervision of a Postdoctoral Researcher, or other staff scientists, for research assistance on various projects related to neurodegenerative diseases. The RLAI will be expected to function efficiently and cooperatively with a team of faculty, research associates, technicians and students. As a RLAI, perform lab cleaning and maintenance duties including washing and sterilizing glassware, operates autoclaves and other specialized equipment, utilizing special detergents or other cleaning agents. Assist in ordering and maintenance of cleaning supplies inventory.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in duties including, but not limited to routine feeding of cell cultures, help perform basic wet lab protocols and spreadsheet organization, preparation of stock solutions

  • Assists in maintaining laboratory and laboratory equipment record keeping

  • Maintain project records

  • May report to Lab Supervisor or Research Associate III

  • May assist Research Lab Assistant II

  • May participate in research studies and perform basic lab techniques under guidance of the PI.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED, required

Experience and Skillset:

  • Ability to understand and perform a variety of routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to support the activity of one or more research labs

  • Ability to use specialized equipment and materials

  • Ability to comply with safety standards and procedures

  • Scheduling flexibility including evening, weekend and holiday rotation commitment

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential
