Summary of Essential Job Duties:

The Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse III, as a professional practitioner, assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care. The Clinical Nurse II makes clinical judgments and carries out related nursing interventions using the nursing process without supervision. She/he demonstrates critical thinking and performance ability in the coordination, implementation and documentation of patient care and consistently performs according to the standards of the profession.

The Clinical Nurse III, assumes ultimate responsibility and accountability in managing her/his patient care and in assisting others in the management of patient care. She/he provides nursing care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care, The Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, CSMC Code of Conduct, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan and Professional Organization Standards. The Clinical Nurse III competency skills including the ability to provide care to special patient populations and patients and families with diverse cultural backgrounds. She/he can identify the ability of the family and/or patient, where appropriate, to follow directions/instructions and give consent/assent. She/she can identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide a safe environment; and provide appropriate assessment, intervention and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the neonatal, infant, toddler, preschooler, school-age, adolescent, and young adult patient populations.

Educational Requirements:

BSN preferred

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

California State RN License required

Certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS within 6 months

Specialty Certification Required within 1 year of hire (12 Months)

Experience:

3+ years acute care experience.

Pediatrics experience preferred.

Congenital Heart experience a plus.

Previous Charge nurse experience a plus.

Meets specialty specific clinical competencies for assigned clinical nurse level and area.

Working knowledge of applicable Standards of Practice.

Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.

Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.

Meets clinical criteria and protocol for Clinical Nurse assigned level.

Physical Demands:

•Full body motion

•Full sensory response (vision, speech, hearing, smell, touch)

•Manual finger dexterity and fine motor skills with eye-hand coordination

•Frequent standing, walking, twisting (trunk, neck), bending (waist), flexing/extending/stretching (extremities and trunk)

•Occasional sitting, gripping/grasping, reaching below shoulder level, reaching above shoulder level, kneeling, squatting

•Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, push/pull at least 100 pounds and carry up to 25 pounds
