Cedars-Sinai Project Scientist - Dr. Casero Lab - Bioinformatics in Los Angeles, California
Principal Investigator, David Casero, PhD is looking for a Project Scientist to join the team!
The Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute (IBIRI) is a multidisciplinary basic, translational and clinical research program devoted to discovering the causes of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) with the goal of improved treatment approaches and prevention. The laboratory of Dr. David Casero is looking for highly motivated computational scientists who are passionate about diving into complex biological data!
The group of Dr. David Casero applies Bioinformatics, Computational Biology and high-throughput sequencing data to analyze gene regulatory pathways in stem cell and immunobiology. We are particularly interested in understanding the establishment and maintenance of normal tissue homeostasis, supported by molecular interactions between members of the tissue microenvironment (e.g., epithelial, mesenchymal, and immune cells) and environmental factors (e.g., signals modulated by the microbiome). With the help of our collaborators, our lab aims to harness the power of multi-omics libraries to generate the novel data-driven hypothesis that can pave the way into future mechanistic and translational studies.

Are you ready to be a part of ground breaking research?
Our goal is to build a dynamic team dedicated to analyze and interpret multi-omics sequencing datasets in both basic and translational studies. This role will work within a collaborative team that aims to integrate phenotypic multi-omics data (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics) into predictive and classification models. In this role, you will develop a wide range of computational analysis pipelines, from experimental design to data analyses and visualization to inform drug-discovery efforts and follow-up functional experiments. Therefore, proficiency is key in the analysis of several multi-omics data types (bulk and single-cell RNA-seq, ChIP-Seq, ATAC-seq, metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, spatial transcriptomics) and the use of bioinformatics software and databases.
A Project Scientist should be able to work independently while being an outstanding collaborator and very well-organized. The Project Scientist may be an ongoing member of a research team or may be employed for a limited period of time to contribute high-level skills to a specific research or creative program. Project Scientists are not required to carry out independent research or to develop an independent research reputation and do not have teaching responsibilities. Ordinarily, the Project Scientist will carry out research or creative programs as well as administration of day-to-day lab operations with supervision by a member of the Professorial Series. This position is an outstanding opportunity to do highly multidisciplinary research in a relevant biomedical problem within in collaboration with world-renowned IBD scientists. We have a number of ongoing projects and candidates will be encouraged to develop an individual plan and initiate their own collaborative research.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
May assist in preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications and presentations but is not responsible for generating grant funds
May serve as PI for certain grants as approved by supervising member of the Professorial Series
May participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author
May develop, adapt and implement new research techniques and protocols
Assists in lab experiments
Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data
May lead or train Staff Research Associates and Research Fellows
Will assist in day-to-day laboratory activities
Appointees on an academic trajectory will be expected to commit a portion of their time to developing an independent range of research
Analyze and integrate multi-omic (transcriptomics, epigenomics, metagenomics) sequencing datasets into quantitative models
Interact continuously with our bench collaborators to guide and propose new experiments and use available data to its full potential
Conduct projects independently, maintain appropriate records and databases, and facilitate data access to wet-lab collaborators
Provide guidance and supervise the work of post-doctoral scholars and graduate students. Provide expert opinion and guidance on data analysis and experimental design
Participate and present research outputs in group meetings, collaborative meetings, project retreats and seminars. Present at national/international conferences
Doctorate (PhD) in area directly related to field of research specialization (systems biology, computational biology, bioinformatics, applied mathematics, theoretical physics, computer science)
Demonstrated significant, original, and creative contributions to a research or creative program or project
Experience we are seeking:
Completion of postdoctoral appointment in area of specialization, as applicable
Knowledge of PI’s area of research specialization
Demonstrated technical competency in a variety of research techniques and protocols
5 years of experience in genomics, metagenomics, proteomics or other types of high throughput data analysis, preferred
Significant experience in python, R, matlab or other major programming languages, preferred
Strong mathematical background and analytical skills, preferred
Experience in Machine Learning and big data analytics, preferred
Experience in translational genomics, or practical applications of genomics to disease studies, preferred
