Summary of Essential Job Duties:
The Cedars-Sinai F. Widjaja Foundation Inflammatory Bowel and Immunobiology Research Institute (I BI RI) is searching for a Research Postdoc. IBIRI is a multidisciplinary basic, translational and clinical research program devoted to Inflammation Bowel Diseases. Under the direction of Dr. David Underhill, the institute is seeking for a talented and highly motivated candidate to join the group as a Research Postdoc.
A postdoctoral position is available at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles to study mechanisms of innate immunity and host-microbe interactions. Research interests include macrophage and dendritic cell biology and intestinal inflammatory diseases (see Nature 472:47; Science 336:1314; Cell 166:624). The successful candidate may study molecular mechanisms of interactions between microbes (fungi and bacteria) and phagocytes, or the role of the microbiome in intestinal diseases with a focus on fungal microbiota.
Recent PhD graduates (within 3 years of graduating) with a strong background in animal models of intestinal inflammation and/or microbiome studies will be preferred. Experience in basic cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry and mouse-handling is necessary. Strong communication skills and at least one peer-reviewed first author publication are required.
He or she will perform directed research project under supervision of the Pi and will devise experimental protocols and processes, compiles and analyzes data, develops figures, searches scientific literature, assists in writing manuscripts, and presents data at local and national meetings. Required experience for the position:
Primary and cell line cell culture
Molecular biology: plasmid DNA preparation; basic molecular biology-restriction enzyme digests, subcloning, PCR
Computational data handling and analysis
Should have experience in some or all of the following:
Protein preparation/SDS-PAGE/Western blot analysis
RNA preparation/Northern blots
Mammalian cell transfection
Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientist, the Research Fellow will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period, May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. Analyzes and interprets data. May assist in preparation of grant proposals. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author. Not responsible for generating grant funds.

Doctorate (MD, PhD. VMD, or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization.
Independently works on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within an area of specialization. Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to live (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment. Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment.
