The Cedars-Sinai Transgender Surgery and Health Program offers individualized care for all patients seeking gender-affirming surgery and transition-related care. Our interdisciplinary team follows an evidence- and research-based approach to tailor care for each of our patients at every stage of their transition. Our team also is dedicated to research that will improve the surgical techniques and gender-affirming options available to transgender patients. Each member of our team participates in case conferences to contribute to the care plans of patients with complex medical needs.

We work closely with community partners and healthcare providers to deliver services and education that will improve the health of the transgender community and provide continuity of care. The Cedars-Sinai program is available to all patients seeking gender-affirming surgery and healthcare, including those covered by Medi-Cal and Medicare.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice. research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership, and patient care management across the health care continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge. A Nurse Practitioner's practice incorporates both independent decision making abilities and collaboration with the board certified/eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients. The Nurse Practitioner is responsible to the medical director and the chief nursing officer (CNO) and functions as an integral part of the medical team. The Nurse Practitioner practices under the Board of Registered Nursing California code of regulations, Title

  1. Article 8, Section 1480-1485, utilizing the Nurse Practitioner Standardized Procedures. These are developed in a collaborative effort within the area of specialty, department of Nursing and the Hospital Administration, incorporating CSI-IS goals and represent an interdisciplinary approach to patient care delivery. The Nurse Practitioner provides individualized care upholding CSHS philosophies including but not limited to care consistent with Nursing Standards of Care/Practice, the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care, the Plan for Provision of Patient Care, the Performance Improvement Plan, the Patient Education Plan, the Professional Organization Standards, Code of Conduct, and hospital and departmental policies and procedures. She/he enhances competency skills through continuing education programs. She/he demonstrates the ability to provide care to special patient population and those with diverse cultural background. She/he performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to age and developmental milestones of the population(s) served. She/he is able to identify the ability of the age specific population served to follow direction/instructions and give consent. She/he can identify safety concerns and institute measures to provide safe environment and provide appropriate assessment, intervention, and evaluation of patients with consideration of developmental milestones in the population served.

Educational Requirements:

Graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing as defined in Section 1482, Nurse Practice Act, Business and Professional Code National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner

License/Certification/Registration Requirements:

Current State of California Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years of surgical acute care experience required

Experience in Urology and/or Transgender programs preferred
