Coordinates all daily functions for the research laboratory inclusive of, but not limited to clinical trial protocol interpretation for laboratory specimen collection and processing, phlebotomy, accessioning, and packaging of specimens for shipment.


Such duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Performs accurate processing of laboratory specimens, demonstrating a moderate degree of proficiency and understanding of research protocol procedures.

  2. Participate in solution of technical problems requiring great degree of independent judgment.

  3. Oversee all aspects of research laboratory

  4. Laboratory kits:

  5. Prepare and process laboratory kits for all research patients

  6. Inventory laboratory kits

  7. Order laboratory kits as needed

  8. Destroy expired laboratory kits

  9. Review all laboratory manuals provided by the clinical trial sponsor

  10. Address laboratory queries as needed

  11. Be a resource and contact for Sponsors and other laboratory facilities that pertain to the clinical trial.

  12. Obtain required laboratory documents for clinical trials

  13. Obtain all required specimens from outside laboratories as outlined in the protocol

  14. Maintain a complete inventory of all specimens:

  15. that are collected and stored at The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute and to be shipped to other facilities

  16. that are obtained and returned to other facilities

  17. Other duties as assigned


Identifies other learning needs and demonstrates measures to meet these.

  1. Demonstrates applied knowledge when caring for selected patient populations including care appropriate to the age of patients served.

  2. Maintains efficient flow of work throughout the practice by evaluating procedures and volume of work required at various periods of time throughout the day.

  3. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice regarding:

a. Attendance, punctuality, and confidentiality.

b. Positive public relation image and working relationships.

c. Obtaining necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence.

d. Completing all mandatory requirements, including infection control and safety seminars or manual reviews.

  1. Responsible for inventory and restocking of supplies.

  2. Maintain appropriate records of laboratory activities.

  3. Review and adhere to department policies or procedures to maintain proficiency in operating guidelines.

  4. Demonstrate willingness to assist co-workers in completion of daily tasks or special projects to support the department’s efficiency.

  5. Seek guidance and direction, as necessary, for the successful completion of job duties; ask appropriate questions when in doubt.


  • Current California Phlebotomy License (CPT) required

  • Minimum requirement: High School diploma or equivalent

  • Experience in clinical trial protocol interpretation for laboratory needs.

  • A minimum of three (3) years of clinical lab bench experience in processing of patient samples.


  • Ability to deal effectively with diverse people, excellent human relations and oral communication skills.

  • Must be able to prioritize, organize and coordinate care.

  • Must have a quality service attitude.

  • Must be proficient in phlebotomy skills.

  • Able to work carefully and efficiently under stressful situations.


  1. Exposed to noise, electrical, chemical and sharps hazards.

  2. Moderate sitting/walking/standing.

  3. High volume of patient interaction and prolonged viewing of computer screens.

  4. Requires good physical and emotional health.

  5. Lifting, pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs. and 200 lbs. with assistance.

  6. Continuous hand/finger movements.
