The LVN supports the

physician and nursing staff in the delivery of health care by performing

patient care assessments, and a variety of medically related tasks. The LVN is

a licensed nurse who works in an ambulatory care setting to perform and provide

nursing services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES include

the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

  • Greetpatients and provide an initial nursing evaluation.

  • Managespatient care flow and takes a leadership role within the suite.

  • Preparepatients for provider by reviewing current medications and record inmedical record.

  • Takeappropriate vital signs and record in medical record.

  • Setsup exam room/procedure rooms appropriately based on patient visit needs.

  • Assistprovider in examination/procedure rooms as needed.

  • Performdesignated diagnostic tests as directed by provider.

  • Draw,prepare designated lab work and/or specimens as directed by provider.

  • Administerimmunization, injections, oral or IV medications as directed by provider.

  • UsePRN/Smart Talk systems to convey lab results to patients as defined byprovider.

  • Assistin follow-up scheduling needs.

  • Answerpatient calls in timely fashion.

  • Preparecharts as needed, including filing into appropriate sections of medicalrecord and assures that all pertinent items are available to providerbefore patient care commences.

  • Abilityto understand and assist two or more providers with clinical care.

  • Handlesall designated clinical care telephone interactions with provider input.

  • Communicatesall significant clinical findings to MD.

  • Servesas an advocate for patient and utilizes appropriate resources.

  • Actsas a role model in providing care; precepts new staff.

  • Provideorientation and training for new clinical staff.

  • Recommendareas of improvement.

  • Servesas liaison with other departments, facilities, and hospital.

  • Assessworkflow of suite MA and schedule accordingly, covering absences,illnesses, and breaks.

  • Providereview of MA skills and performance abilities using designated evaluationtools.

  • Counseland provide corrective actions as needed with input from Lead Nurse.

  • TrainMA staff about systems needed to perform current job duties, including,but not limited to scheduling systems, PRN/Smart Talk systems, lab resultssystems.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Certificationfrom accredited school and current California LVN licensure to practice.

  • Fiveor more years of experience in outpatient medical setting preferred.

  • Phlebotomycertified.

  • IVcertified.

  • CPRfrom the American Heart Association.

  • Vascular experience preferred

  • Intermediatecomputer skills preferred.

  • Provencustomer service and patient care skills.

  • Understandingof patient care flow and insurance concepts.

  • Abilityto correctly set up exam rooms/procedure rooms using sterile/aseptictechnique with appropriate instruments or trays.

  • Abilityto prepare patient for office visit/procedures.

  • Abilityto correctly perform vital signs and accurately document and recordsignificant data.

  • Abilityto correctly prepare lab work/specimens for pick up.

  • Abilityto perform designated testing and specimen collection.

  • Understandingof cleaning, sterilization of autoclaving procedures.

  • Abilityto determine current medications that patient is using and recordaccurately.

  • Basicunderstanding of pharmacology and medication administration includingoral, SQ, IM and IV medications.

  • Basicability to perform and record QC testing on designated equipment.

  • Abilityto problem solve and prioritize work assignments.

  • Abilityto schedule "nurse visits" for phlebotomy, testing or otherprocedures.

  • Abilityto handle provider correspondence and communications as related to clinicalcare.

  • Understandingof medical supply ordering and cost containment.

  • Provenleadership abilities preferred.
