The Hematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program operates within a continuum of levels of acute and chronic care services tightly coordinated with the patients’ primary care and specialty care physicians in the community:

Adult Hematology/Oncology/BMT inpatient services are provided in a 32 bed unit located on the 4thFloor (west end) of the South Tower of the Medical Center (4SW). This includes 32 beds with 12 positive pressure rooms that are designated for the treatment of autologous and allogeneic stem cells, bone marrow transplant, and umbilical cord blood transplant patients. The average daily census is 31.

A Clinical Nurse III (CN III), is a proficient and experienced clinician who provides nursing efficiently and effectively using a high level of technical and organizational skills as well as critical thinking ability. A CN III possesses an in depth knowledge in all aspects of nursing care for a specific unit patient population and consistently applies specialized knowledge and skills in the management of nursing care for individual or groups of patients and their families. A CN III is regarded as a resource for staff on patient care issues.

The scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are to meet the Nurse Practice Act (state law that protects patients by promoting safe, competent nursing practices), Title 22 (Health and Safety codes), The Joint Commission (develops performance standards and accredits programs for hospitals and other healthcare-related organizations) and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements.

Qualification Requirements/Preferences:

Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational, License, Certification and Other Requirements:

-B.S.N. from an accredited school of nursing is preferred.

-Current and valid registered nurse license from the State of California.

-Current and valid Basic Cardiac Life Support certificate from the American Heart Association.

-Specialty Certification is preferred (OCN, Palliative Care, Pain Management, ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy). Will be required to obtain within 6 months of hire.

-Must possess minimum computer competency comprised of a working knowledge of Windows or comparable system specifically including keyboarding and mouse skills and applicable to individual job duties and expectations, employee must demonstrate competency in use of the applications indicated on the competency checklist.

-Full command (written and verbal) of the English Language.

-Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years recent acute RN experience in specialty. NOTE: (minimum 1 year recent acute RN experience will be considered for Registered Nurse II)
